Toby has created puppetry for the stage adaptation of Studio Chizu’s animated film The Boy and the Beast, which is playing at the JR East Theatre in Tokyo.
The story follows Kyuta, an orphan who stumbles into a fantastical world of beasts, where he’s taken in by Kumatetsu, a warrior beast who’s been searching for the perfect apprentice. But when a darkness threatens the human and beast worlds, the bond between this unlikely pair will be put to the ultimate test.
With script and lyrics by Chikae Takahashi and direction by Gō Aoki, the production marks Toby’s third collaboration with Shiki Theatre Company (following Disney’s The Little Mermaid and A Robot in the Garden).
